Aquaculture AI software company ReelData appoints contractor in Chile

Canadian company ReelData, which specialises in artificial intelligence (AI) hardware and software for the aquaculture industry, has appointed a new contractor in Chile.

Aquiles Gallardo, a resident of Puerto Montt, joins ReelData from August 1.

ReelData said Gallardo has an extensive background in both aquaculture and engineering, and a unique skillset that bridges the gap between AI technology and aquaculture application. He has significant experience in the aquaculture industry as a project manager, including feed and photoperiod projects, and R&D for new technologies, and has worked across both freshwater and seawater stages of the lifecycle.

Gallardo has a degree in electronic engineering from the Universidad Austral de Chile and commercial experience in engineering and maintenance in the telecommunications industry prior to starting his career in aquaculture.

Gallardo will be the first representative ReelData has had at a local level in Chile, the world's second largest exporter of farmed salmon.  He will support sales and business development.

"Aquiles brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the ReelData team," said the company's commercial director, Gareth Butterfield. "We're excited not only to have someone at ReelData with the breadth and depth of expertise that Aquiles brings, but also someone close to market who can provide the necessary support, guidance and coaching to customers using ReelData's AI technology.

"We look forward to working with Aquiles and building upon the existing client base by expanding into Chile. We've had lots of communication with Chilean companies and there's a lot of excitement about our technology. By bringing Aquiles on board, Chilean customers of ReelData will have a reputed and respected local resource on which they can rely."

ReelData, which is based in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada, offers a fully automated feeding system, AI biomass monitoring, and its own recently launched underwater camera suitable for both AI and standard internet protocol (IP) applications.
