US poultry production sees slight increase in June

According to the latest data from the US Department of Agriculture (USDA), poultry production in the US witnessed a modest rise in June 2023 compared to the same period last year, Brownfield Ag News reported.
The report indicates that a total of 4.496 billion pounds of poultry were certified wholesome in June 2023, reflecting a 1% increase from June 2022. The growth in production was primarily driven by a slight gain in chicken production, which reached 3.989 billion pounds, as well as a notable 12% jump in turkey production, totalling 493.734 million pounds.
The increase in chicken production offset the 1% decline in chicken slaughter through the utilisation of heavier average live weights. On the other hand, turkey processing and total live weight recorded significant gains, surpassing the figures reported in the same month of the previous year.
The USDA is set to release its next round of annual poultry production projections on August 11, providing further insights into the anticipated trends and developments in the poultry industry.
