Argentina June corn exports down 32 percent; wheat sharply down

Argentina exported 1,096,248 tonnes of corn in June, down 32 percent from 1,606,025 tonnes shipped in June 2007, according to the latest data from the animal and food-inspection agency, Senasa.

Corn exports during the first half of the year reached 7,954,874 tonnes, down from 8,082,096 during the same period a year ago.

On the other hand, Argentina exported 94,718 tonnes of wheat in June, down sharply from the 700,086 tonnes shipped during June 2007, according to Senasa.

Wheat shipments during the first half of the year totalled 5,675,218 tonnes, down from 6,515,487 tonnes a year earlier.

New wheat export commitments have been blocked since late last year. However, in June the government announced that an additional 1 million tonnes would be authorized for export.
