Thailand needs bigger shrimps for export market
Thai farmers have been exhorted to breed bigger shrimps to meet demand from the export markets.
An official of the fisheries office in Songkhla province, Phit Noppharat said that 90 percent of domestic shrimps produced for the export sector are too small and are not well-received in foreign markets.
This has affected the competitiveness of Thai shrimp exports and thus depressed prices at home. The strengthening baht also affects profits gained from exports, he added.
