Thailand shrimp exports may face obstacles in the near future

Thailand's exports of shrimps and products would remain promising in the second half of this year and next year, but exporters need to monitor a new anti-dumping (AD) duty and the World Trade Organization (WTO) ruling on a bond guarantee for exports, according to the KASIKORN Research Center (KRC).

The leading think tank said in a report released last week that Thai seafood exports had begun to recover since late last year and are expected to increase continuously for this year and the next.

Thailand's rivals have experienced disease epidemics and bad weather conditions which slashed production, allowing Thai shrimp exports to key destinations such as the US, Japan and the EU to increase significantly. The increase was aided by Thailand's regaining the generalised system of preferences from its trading partners.
