New Zealand meat exporters may invest more in marketing
Meat & Wool New Zealand plans to urge meat exporters to make more financial contributions to its marketing programmes, according to a report by Radio New Zealand.
Farmers are worried about the amount of their tax money that is being spent in the marketing programmes.
The report states that exporters currently pay NZ$2 million (US$1.3 million) per year for joint meat promotion campaigns compared with the NZ$11 million (US$7.1 million) that Meat & Wool spends on marketing.
Meat & Wool chairman Mike Petersen said farmers are not prepared to continue contributing 80 percent of the marketing costs. It is hoped that companies will financially support 50 percent of the programme.
