Tuna, shrimp tops US favourite seafood products
The National Fisheries Institute's (NFI) 2008 top ten list shows that canned tuna and shrimp continue to be the favourite seafood products of the US.
According to FIS, most rankings have not changed but general seafood consumption fell for the third consecutive year.
FIS said amounts of shrimp consumed have remained stable and canned tuna has seen a small hike.
Consumption of tilapia has been steadily rising since its introduction to the US market in 2002.
The average consumption of shrimp in the US for 2008 is 4.1 pounds; 2.7 pounds of canned tuna; 1.84 pounds of salmon, down from 2.36 pounds in 2007; Pollock is 1.34 pounds down from 1.73 pounds the year before; and tilapia is 1.9 pounds, up from 1.14 pounds in 2007.
