Close to 1.6 million dozen eggs in Texas, US, recalled over Salmonella contamination

The US FDA said on July 22 that Midwest Poultry Services is recalling ‌nearly 1.6 million dozen eggs produced in Texas, the United States, due to potential Salmonella contamination.

The recalled white and brown cage-free eggs were sold at Kroger stores in Texas and Louisiana and Brookshire Grocery stores in certain states including ​Oklahoma, Arkansas and Mississippi, the FDA said.

Brookshire Grocery Co told Reuters it had begun reviewing its inventory and removing potentially affected products upon receiving the notice.

"All eggs currently available for purchase in our stores were sourced from a different production facility," the company said in an emailed statement.

No illnesses reported were linked to the Midwest Poultry Services eggs as of the announcement, ‌the FDA added.

Midwest Poultry Services has halted distributing eggs produced on its Texas farms, the health regulator added.

After identifying a potential egg safety issue, Midwest Poultry redirected eggs to a processing facility for pasteurisation and launched an internal investigation and testing to determine the source of the potential Salmonella enteritidis contamination.
