EU Extends Import Ban Of Poultry From Bird Flu Countries In Asia


The European Union said Monday it will continue its ban on imports of poultry and pet birds from several Asian countries where avian influenza was confirmed at the beginning of 2004.
 
In some of these countries, avian influenza is still occurring and the "overall disease situation in the area remains unclear," the Commission said in a statement.
 
The countries involved are Thailand, Cambodia, Indonesia, Japan, Laos, Pakistan, China, South Korea and Vietnam.
 
The ban has been extended until Dec. 15, after previously being extended to Aug. 15.
