Australian Live Cattle Market To Continue South-East Asian Focus

The Australian Livestock Export Council says South-East Asia will prove to be the live cattle market of the future, despite the current market shrinking substantially.

The council's Dr Richard Trivett says Libya may also return as a market for sheep and cattle.

Dr Trivett adds that the decline in the South-East Asia market is mainly a result of currency fluctuations, a price sensitive Philippine market and strong cattle markets here in Australia.

"Indonesia, which is our biggest market by far, has shrunk considerably to previous years. Sadly the Philippines, which is also a significant market, have taken about 30 per cent this year of what they took last year, so there has been a contraction there," he said.
