China lifts ban on German pork

China and Germany have signed an agreement that may soon see the lifting of China's ban on German pork as the former continues to grapple with a pork shortage that has seen a surge in pork prices in the country.

China previously banned German pork over concerns on dioxin in German meat.

The two countries also saw their representatives, Chinese vice agriculture minister Niu Dun and the German agriculture minister Gerd Muller drawing up a bilateral agricultural trade agreement to bring greater cooperation to improve agricultural production in China and trade.

Germany exported EUR 80 million worth of products to China last year.
