Kemira and Metachem set up joint venture in Brazil

Brazilian feed additives companies Kemira and Metachem Industrial Commercial Ltd have set up a joint venture in Sao Paulo, Brazil to develop the feed additives markets in South America, a joint statement said.

The new company would produce and market feed additives in the South American market. Kemira would have a 51 percent stake in the company while Metachem would have the other 49 percent.

In addition to feed additive production in Sao Paulo, a significant part of the joint venture's business would involve marketing Kemira's feed additives produced in the Netherlands and Spain to South America.

The development would supplement Kemira's position in South America, which is the world's fastest growing market region for animal feed and organic acid derivatives.

Metachem has been a traditional supplier of specialties and performance products to the South American market.

Over the last 18 years, it has developed a complete line of additives and performance enhancers to the feed segment, most of them locally produced in Brazil.

Kemira produces formic acid and its derivatives in Finland and organic acid derivatives in the Netherlands and in Spain.
