De Heus opens first marine and cold-water fish feed plant in Vietnam's Vinh Long with 168,000-tonne capacity

The facility is De Heus's first in Vietnam dedicated to marine and cold-water species, and forms part of the Dutch group's long-term strategy to develop high-value aquaculture feed supply chains in the country.

Royal De Heus Group has inaugurated a marine and cold-water fish feed plant in Vinh Long province, southern Vietnam, with an initial operating capacity of 84,000 tonnes per year and a design capacity of 168,000 tonnes per year, marking the group's first dedicated marine feed facility in the country.

The plant, built on a site of more than 29,300 square metres in Thanh Duc ward, Vinh Long, uses automated production lines incorporating European and US technology and is certified to ISO 22000, ASC Feed and BAP standards. Feed products are formulated for high-value marine and cold-water species, with the facility designed to optimise raw material efficiency, reduce energy consumption and comply with international food safety and responsible production standards.

Johan van den Ban, Chief Executive Officer of De Heus Vietnam and Asia, said the investment reflected the group's long-term commitment to Vietnam's marine and cold-water aquaculture sectors, which it views as high-potential growth areas for the country's fisheries industry. "Through specialised nutritional solutions and modern production technology, De Heus aims to support farmers in improving production efficiency, product quality and competitiveness, and to gradually build a sustainable and responsible aquaculture value chain," Van den Ban said.

Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Environment Vo Van Hung said marine and cold-water aquaculture held significant development potential in Vietnam owing to its natural conditions, long coastline and distinct ecological zones, alongside growing domestic and international demand for high-quality seafood products. He said the investment aligned with Vietnam's fisheries development strategy to 2030, which prioritises industrial marine aquaculture and high-value species as the sector shifts from volume-driven to quality-driven and value-added growth.

Tran Tri Quang, Chairman of Vinh Long Provincial People's Committee, said the plant would strengthen the province's position as an investment destination for agro-industrial projects and support supply chain development across the broader Mekong Delta region. The Dutch Consul General in Ho Chi Minh City, Raissa Marteaux, attended the opening and highlighted the facility as an example of Dutch-Vietnamese agricultural cooperation.

De Heus has operated in Vietnam for nearly two decades, investing across feed production, research and development, and technology transfer for livestock and aquaculture producers.
