Afghanistan to establish 7,000 new fish farms nationwide

The Afghan Economic Commission has given the go-ahead to a plan for the development of the country's fish farming sector with 7,700 new fish farms that will be constructed across the country.

The Office of the Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs wrote on its X handle that the Technical Committee of the Economic Commission meeting held on July 21 at the Marmarin Palace discussed the development plans for the country's agriculture and livestock sector.

Following comprehensive discussions and consideration of the Ministry of Water and Energy's views, the fish farming development plan was endorsed.

As per the plan, 7,700 fish farms will be set up nationwide. This initiative is expected to meet up to 90% of the country's demand for fish meat and create direct and indirect employment opportunities for 300,000 people.

The plan has been referred to the Economic Commission for a final decision.

After thorough deliberation, officials from the Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock were instructed to incorporate the feedback of the Ministry of Water and Energy into the policy and present the final version at the next session of the Technical Committee.
