Aquaculture output of Kerala, India, not increasing as expected, chief minister says

The Chief Minister of Kerala, India, Pinarayi Vijayan, on July 10 underscored the need to improve fish production in the state.

While Kerala is focusing on aquaculture, production has not increased as expected, Vijayan said, as he inaugurated a meeting of farmers to mark National Fish Farmer's Day.

However, Fisheries Minister Saji Cherian, who presided over the event, said that the Left Democratic Front government has paid close attention to improving fish production in the state.

From 24,000 metric tons in 2016-17, production has risen to 40,850 metric tons in Kerala.
