Iran produces over 11 million tonnes of livestock feed annually
Majid Movafegh Ghadiri, head of the Iran Feed Industry Association, announced that the country produces over 11 million tonnes of livestock feed each year through 886 production units, Tehran Times reported.
According to Ghadiri, Iranian livestock feed producers currently source over 80% of their inputs from other countries. This year, there has been a notable increase in imports: corn by 16%, soybean meal by 1,200%, soybeans by 18%, and barley by 37%.
He made these remarks during the opening ceremony of the 23rd International Exhibition of Poultry, Livestock, and Related Industries (IRAN PLEX 2024), held from July 20 to 23 at the Tehran International Permanent Fairground.
IRAN PLEX 2024, with participation from domestic and foreign companies worldwide, offers an opportunity for industry professionals to explore the latest achievements and technologies in the livestock, poultry, and related industries. The exhibition features a wide range of products and services, including livestock and poultry feed, equipment and machinery, dairy products, medicine and vaccines, packaging and processing, and financial and banking services.
The organisers highlighted that most foreign companies at the exhibition are from Europe. Addressing a press conference prior to the event, Ghadiri emphasised the role of exhibitions in improving the current situation. He noted that this year's slogan is "Animal Feed and Sustainable Guidance."
Ghadiri also announced the unveiling of the competitiveness promotion system in the aquatic industry and the introduction of a five-year animal feed programme. Additionally, 39 ambassadors and 11 trade delegations from neighbouring countries will attend the exhibition.
