Kazakhstan's 2011-12 grain exports double

Kazakhstan's 2011-12 grain exports reached 2.2 times than last year, said Anna Buts, director of the Kazakh Agriculture Ministry's farming department.

"A record level of export of grain and its processed products was achieved in 2011-12. According to Kazakhstan's statistics agency and Kazakhstan's Railways Company, 12.1 million tonnes of grain, including grain equivalent of flour, was shipped for export from June 1, 2011 till June 30, 2012, or up 2.2 times on 2010-11. This volume included 8.4 million tonnes of grain and 2.6 million tonnes of flour," Buts said.

At the same time, she said, monthly grain exports (including flour in grain equivalent) average more than one million tonnes.

According to the Agriculture Ministry, the grain increase was promoted by KZT15 billion (US$100.3 million) allocated from the state budget in 2011-12 to subsidise export grain transportation costs at a rate of KZT6,000 (US$40) per tonne.
