Chile to boost salmon farming with new research centres
Chile plans to establish three Norwegian research institutes in the country in order to boost the domestic salmon farming industry, according to a senior government official.
The centres will develop studies to increase aquaculture productivity and to help determine the best sanitary conditions for the breeding of salmon and other species.
Minister of Economy, Hugo Lavados, will visit Norway in August 18 with a delegation made up of executives and representatives of the salmon farming industry.
In Norway, the minister will meet with different people from research institutes with the aim to have a Norwegian applied research group set up in Chile.
Lavados said three centres have already indicated their interest.
The greater the research is, the greater the control, according to Lavados.
