Ukraine's June pig population up 1.7 percent to 7.2 million heads
Ukraine's pig population rose by 1.7 percent or 121,400 heads in June compared with May's 7,204,100 heads as of July 1, 2009, the State Statistics Committee reports.
Pig population in private farms grew by 1.6 percent or 65,700 heads to 4,135,600 heads, and by 1.9 percent or 55,700 heads to 3,068,500 heads in specialized farms, compared to May.
The pig population rose by 6.6 percent or 444,000 heads against July 1, 2008.
Specifically, pig population rose by 15.6 percent or 414,200 heads in specialized farms, and by 0.7 percent or 29,800 heads in private farms.
As Ukrainian News earlier reported, pig population in May went up by 3.5 percent or 238,700 heads compared with April, to 7,082,700 heads as of June 1.
