China Produced 25.35 Million Tons of Poultry Eggs and 13.2 Million Tons of Poultry Meat in 2003

According to official statistics, China is the largest poultry egg producer and the second-largest poultry meat producer in the world in recent years.
In 2003, a total of 25.35 million tons of poultry eggs and 13.2 million tons of poultry meat were produced in China, accounting for 40% and 17% of the world's overall production respectively.
Poultry production is one of China's major agricultural industries. In 2003, China exported approximately 8.3 billion birds of poultry and had a poultry inventory of 4.7 billion birds. The total production value was reported to be RMB241.5 billion, and there were about 13.7 million Chinese farmers involved in poultry farming. They earned a total net income of RMB 27.1 billion.
Among China's various animal production industries, the development of poultry production has attained standards closest to international level. After years of development, there are now a number of major influencing Chinese poultry production enterprises, attaining high productivity and good quality standards.
In 2003, China exported more than US$800 million worth of poultry meat and products, with 70% of the exports contributed by these major enterprises.
