South Korea resumes milk exports to China after 14-month suspension

Barred for 14 months from exporting milk to China, South Korea is finally permitted to resume the trade.

The development came after four sessions of negotiations culminating in South Korea's registration as a foreign exporter. The status is conferred under a revised Chinese law concerning the acceptance of international milk shipments.

This week, the first Korean shipment will arrive in China, in the form of a five-tonne delivery of sterilised milk, the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs said.

More than US$91 million worth of dairy products entered China in 2013, a significant increase over the US$47 million record seen in 2012.
