Azerbaijan to fully meet local poultry demand by late 2011

Azerbaijan will be able to meet its demand of tribal eggs and poultry by late 2011, said executive director of the National Fund for Entrepreneurship Support (NFES) Shirzad Abdullayev.

"According to statistics, Azerbaijan produces up to 28 million eggs. As a result of implementation of eight investment projects on development of poultry farming, the production of 60 million eggs will be provided. It will fully meet the needs of the market," Abdullayev said.

He said that increase in egg production in Azerbaijan will have a positive impact on poultry meat output, which is associated with the presence of broilers. The country consumes 80,000 tonnes poultry meat, which is predicted to increase in the future. It will also allow meat exports.

Azerbaijan is provided with domestic production of poultry products by 74%. The fund selected eight projects worth AZN26.9 million (US$33.49) from 13 proposed investment projects. Two poultry farms among the selected projects are located in Khizi region of Azerbaijan, three in Absheron, and one in Imishli, Salyan, and Ismayilli regions.
