Ukraine ups 2008 grain harvest forecast to 43 million tonnes

Ukraine is likely to harvest 43 million tonnes of grain this year, up from a previous forecast of 40.4 million tonnes, the agriculture ministry said Friday July 18.

The figure was raised after the ministry had received the statistics of the current harvest from the regions. The ministry said yields in the majority of Ukraine's regions were proving higher than expected.

Ukraine's grain harvest in 2007 was 29.3 million tonnes.
