Ukraine's cattle numbers down 3.2%
Cattle numbers in Ukraine declined by 3.2% as of July 1, 2010 on-year, to 5.573 million head, including a 3.9% decrease in cow numbers.
Meanwhile pigs numbers grew by 14.5% to 8.314 million head, sheep and goat numbers rose by 4.7% to 2.228 million head, and poultry numbers expanded by 4.7% to 233.067 million birds.
As of the beginning of July this year, households had 3.893 million cattle head (2.3% less than last year), including 2.168 million cows (a fall of 4%), 4.742 million pigs (a rise of 13.1%), 1.874 million sheep and goats (a rise of 6%), and 129.825 million birds of all kinds (a rise of 3.4%).
As of July 1, 2010, cattle numbers at agricultural enterprises amounted to 1.68 million head, or 5.4% less than as of the same date last year, including 603,700 cows (3.7% less than in 2009). The country's agricultural enterprises also had 3.572 million pigs (a rise of 16.4%), 354,100 sheep and goats (1.6% less), and 6.224 million head of poultry (6.4% more).
