Ukraine bans pig imports from Lithuania, Denmark
The State Committee of Veterinary Medicine of Ukraine has banned the import of live pigs, pork and pork products from Lithuania and Denmark, the committee said in a statement.
According to the Lithuanian State Food and Veterinary Service, outbreaks of classical swine fever were reported in Lithuania after pigs from Denmark were imported to the country.
In this connection, the state committee decided to ban import to Ukraine of live pigs, pork and pork products from Lithuania, and also suspend the import of live pigs from Denmark until the circumstances of the outbreaks of classical swine fever are investigated.
In April, Ukraine established a temporary ban on the import of live pigs, pork and pork products from Mexico, Canada and New Zealand due to cases of the AH1N1 flu virus, also known as swine flu, registered in these countries.
