Kerala, Assam, and Manipur among India's top cattle-producing states
The Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation of India's Union Government recently released the EnviStats report, shedding light on the number of animals slaughtered and the quantity of meat production in the country.
According to the report, Kerala slaughtered the highest number of cattle at 1,434.74 thousand, followed by Assam at 57.15 thousand, Manipur at 105.70 thousand, Meghalaya at 230.14 thousand, and Mizoram at 34.18 thousand.
For buffalo slaughter, Maharashtra leads with 58.61 thousand, followed by Uttar Pradesh at 3,925.23 thousand, Andhra Pradesh at 1,261.91 thousand, Bihar at 1,459.51 thousand, and Telangana at 1,159.54 thousand.
Assam tops pig slaughter with 2,320.84 thousand, followed by Nagaland at 1,508.07 thousand, Arunachal Pradesh at 264.80 thousand, Jharkhand at 640.73 thousand, and Tripura at 236.41 thousand.
Andhra Pradesh slaughtered the most poultry at 334,362.39 thousand, followed by Tamil Nadu at 3,025.50 thousand, Maharashtra at 3,100.66 thousand, West Bengal at 245,330.91 thousand, and Haryana at 413,616.83 thousand.
In meat production, Kerala leads in cattle meat production with 1,434.74 thousand tonnes, followed by Assam at 57.15 thousand tonnes, Manipur at 105.70 thousand tonnes, Meghalaya at 230.14 thousand tonnes, and Mizoram at 34.18 thousand tonnes.
Maharashtra is the top producer of buffalo meat at 691.66 thousand tonnes, while Uttar Pradesh follows with 588.78 thousand tonnes, Andhra Pradesh at 141.04 thousand tonnes, Bihar at 147.49 thousand tonnes, and Haryana at 7.33 thousand tonnes.
Assam leads in pork production with 48.69 thousand tonnes, followed by Meghalaya at 19.14 thousand tonnes, Jharkhand at 18.27 thousand tonnes, Nagaland at 17.45 thousand tonnes, and Manipur at 5.63 thousand tonnes.
Andhra Pradesh is the top producer of poultry meat with 506.44 thousand tonnes, followed by Tamil Nadu with 480.13 thousand tonnes, Maharashtra at 691.66 thousand tonnes, Haryana at 563.21 thousand tonnes, and West Bengal at 581.34 thousand tonnes.
