Ukraine's grain exports to decrease by 15%

The country will export 18.5 million tonnes of grain in the 2010/2011 marketing year, or 15% less compared to the previous marketing year, according to the Ukrainian Agrarian Confederation.

"Our calculations foresee Ukraine's grain export potential in the 2010/11 marketing year at a level of 18.5 million tonnes, or 15% less than in the previous marketing year, but we expect that this fall will be significantly compensated for by a rise in export prices of grain," Director General of the Ukrainian Agrarian Confederation Serhiy Stoyanov said.

He noted that grain prices on world markets had started rising since the end of June this year, quite atypical for the pre-harvest period in the Northern Hemisphere, and was continuing in July, supported by reports on the impact of weather conditions on grain crops around the world, especially due to the drought in Russia.
