Russia guarantees growth of livestock, poultry production
For the period between 2008 and 2012, Russia's growth of livestock and poultry for slaughter in live weight was 2.3 million tonnes, as reported by the director of the Department of Animal Husbandry and Breeding from Russia's Ministry of Agriculture Vladimir Labinov.
During the same period, 1,308 dairy cattle facilities, 378 swine breeding facilities, 372 facility for the production of cattle for slaughter, 264 for meat poultry were renovated and modernised.
In order to ensure the development of Russia's animal husbandry sector, the agricultural development committee has selected economically important regional programmes in 2013, out of which 126 programmes have been chosen.
In accordance with the "main activities of the Government of the Russian Federation for the period up to 2018," the proportion of domestic livestock production in total resources for 2018 will amount to meat and meat products totalling not less than 86%, while milk and dairy products should amount to at least 85%.
