Ukraine bans Chinese poultry import

Import of poultry and its products from China has been banned by the State Veterinary and Phytosanitary Service of Ukraine, the agency said in the press-release.

The decision is based on the official information disseminated by the International Epizootic Bureau about the highly pathogenic bird flu registered in China.

The import is prohibited from the provinces of Gansu, Liaoning, Yunnan, the Tibet Autonomous Region, Ningxia Hui and Xinjiang autonomous regions and the Island of Taiwan.

The import of other commodities from China subject to the State Veterinary and Phytosanitary Service of Ukraine's inspection, must comply with the veterinary requirements for import of objects of state veterinary control and supervision to Ukraine.

As Ukrainian News reported, in 2010 the State Committee for Veterinary Medicine banned the import of poultry, raw materials and poultry products from China to Ukraine because of the highly pathogenic avian influenza.
