Tra fish exports from Vietnam's Mekong Delta earns US$640 million
Vietnam's Mekong Delta region has earned US$640 million from exporting more than 300,000 tonnes tra fish in the first half of 2010, said the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.
Despite a slump in prices, the ministry said on July 14 at a conference to review tra fish exports that the figures rose 11.6% and 19.4% on-year, respectively. He also said that the tra fish prices on the world market dropped to US$2.13 per kg from US$2.28 last year.
Major importers included 13 countries in the EU bloc, Northern and Central America, Asia countries. The ministry forecasted that the region is likely to raise its full-year revenues of tra fish exports to US$1.2 billion by 2010-end.
Currently, Mekong Delta has more than 3,700 hectares under tra fish breeding. The two largest tra fish breeding provinces with a combined acreage of 2,340 hectares are Dong Thap and An Giang.
