China's Yurun to establish new meat plant in Jiangxi

China's Yurun Group had invested RMB300 million to set up a new meat processing plant in Jiangxi's Xinyu Economic Development Zone. When it becomes fully operational by June 2008, the new plant will be able to process 3,000 heads of hogs daily. Annual output is valued at RMB2 billion.

Most production processes at the new plant will also be automated. Advanced technology will be harnessed to enable the company's products to meet international standards. With the completion of this plant, more than 200,000 farmers in Xinyu are expected to benefit, mainly through increased hog demand.

From now until 2010, Yurun hopes to set up 2,000 retail shops to market its fresh pork and low-temperature meat products in the domestic market.

Yurun is an active participant of the Chinese government's drive to privatize state-owned assets. In October 2003, Yurun acquired Xinyu Meat Company and renamed it Xinyu Runhe Meat Products Company after injecting RMB 50 million to upgrade its production facilities.

In May 2006, daily slaughtering capacity at the former state-owned plant had reached 500 heads of hogs and annual production value had surpassed RMB 250 million, making it the leading meat processor in Jiangxi province.
