Thai poultry industry grabs opportunity to expand in Russia

With Russia's approval of more imports of Thai poultry products, Thai exporters have immediately grabbed this golden opportunity and are gearing up to expand their market.

After intensive inspections conducted in 2009, Russia's Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Surveillance now approves 21 Thai chicken exporters to the country, said the Thai Broiler Processing Exporters Association.

According to Director-general of Department of Export Promotion (DEP) Srirat Rastapana, Russia has decided to open up its market to more Thai poultry exports.

The decision has been in effect since the end of last year. Reportedly, up to one million tonnes of poultry are exported into Russia each year, with a value of US$1 billion. There is demand in Russia for all parts of chicken, including wings, feet and internal organs, Srirat said.
