Turkey's meat authority to hold livestock procurement tender

The Turkish Meat and Fishery Authority (EBK) will hold a tender and a bargaining in capital Ankara on Thursday (July 15) to buy 50,000 tonnes of livestock.

Turkey will import livestock from the US (excluding states of Texas, Alabama and Washington), Brazil (except Parana region), Uruguay, Argentina (excluding Corrientes and Misiones regions), Chile, New Zealand, Australia, Iceland, Norway, Estonia, Lithuania, Latvia and Hungary.

The livestock will have to age between 12 and 24 months, and weigh between 400 and 750 kilogrammes. The Council of Ministers authorised the EBK to import 16,000 tonnes of live cattle, and 7,500 tonnes of cattle meat (fresh or frozen) in April 30.

EBK, however, decided to import livestock instead of meat. EBK held a tender to import 8,000 tonnes of livestock on May 20, another tender to import 4,000 tonnes of livestock on June 14, and another to import 4,000 tonnes of livestock on July 1.
