Chile Declared Free Of Classical Swine Fever

USDA's Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service is amending its regulations by adding Chile to the list of regions considered free of classical swine fever (CSF). Chile also is added to a list of CSF-free regions that must meet certain certification requirements.

This amendment will allow Chile to export live swine, swine semen, pork and pork products to the United States. The certification requirements for origin and handling are intended to ensure that exports of these commodities do not pose a risk of introducing CSF into the United States. Classical swine fever, also known as hog cholera, is a highly contagious viral disease of swine found throughout the world. The United States has been free of the disease since 1976.
