Vietnam's Can Tho province to push for "greener catfish farming"

The province of Can Tho in Mekong Delta region has urged catfish farmers to make "tra" farming more environmental- friendly.

The province has nearly 1,100 hectares dedicated to raising "tra" catfish for export, posting a 40 percent increase from the same period last year, the Vietnam News Agency reports. However, waste water from some of these areas is not restricted by environmental protection measures and is polluting the local area.

All local farmers involved are urged to breed catfish in measures that will still protect the environment and those who are found to violate will be subject to investigation.
