BASF, a leading global producer of vitamin A for animal nutrition, demonstrates a strong commitment towards the vitamin market with recent investments, the company said.

One of these investments includes BASF's vitamin A acetate expansion project which was started up successfully in July 2021, with a nameplate capacity of 3,800 tonnes.

Additionally, with the expansion of its world-scale vitamin A formulation plant, BASF supports its customers' growth plans and emphasises the role of vitamin A as a strategic pillar for the animal nutrition business.

The construction phase of this state-of-the-art plant has been completed as planned in May 2023. It is fully integrated into the vitamin Verbund — which is what BASF calls its intelligent connection of production plants and technologies to efficiently use resources and leverage expertise.

The vitamin A formulation plant has been constructed using BASF's vast production as well as formulation expertise in vitamins, and incorporates new features which will further enhance competitive and reliable operations.

The plant's team is currently performing the first functional runs. This is the last essential step before the plant goes into operation. Additionally, BASF is using digital solutions and mobile devices to efficiently perform comprehensive, functional tests on machines, equipment and automatic steering modules in a safe and efficient manner.

BASF plans to reach stable production of vitamin A 1000 (Lutavit® A 1000 NXT) in September 2023 and will gradually ramp up commercial volumes afterward. The stepwise increase of the capacities is in line with BASF's higher vitamin A acetate production capacity.

The production of vitamin AD3 will start later this year.
