Norwegian salmon farmers SalMar and Leroy Seafood report lower Q2 harvests
Major Norwegian salmon farmers, SalMar and Leroy Seafood, have announced lower harvests in the second quarter of this year at the Oslo stock exchange, Fish Information & Services reported.
Salmar reported a total harvest of 32,400 tonnes between April to June, lower compared to the 36,600 tonnes year-on-year.
Leroy Seafood announced a total harvest of 33,000 tonnes of salmon and trout, 3,600 tonnes lower year-on-year, but 1,000 tonnes higher compared to the first quarter of 2022.
Norway Royal Salmon and Bakkafrost of the Faroe Islands also announced reduced harvests last week.
SalMar stated in May that the latest updates confirmed the forecast made by the global data provider Kontali that the amount of salmon harvested worldwide was likely to fall by 7% in the second quarter of 2022. It also stated that Scotland would suffer the most from the reduction, at 20%
The largest volume reduction was observed in northern Norway. Scottish Sea Farms is jointly owned by Lery and SalMar, but their financial information won't be released until the full Q2 reports in August.
