Ukraine hopes to export grain to China

Ukraine is interested in exporting grain to China, Russian Agriculture Policy Minister Mykola Prysiazhniuk said.

In general, the minister agreed with the forecasts of grain traders that purchase prices for Ukrainian grain will be low. However, he noted that that level of prices is a result of VAT debts.

The minister said that the state budget for 2010 was endorsed late and the order of distribution of funds was also untimely; that is why state purchases have not been held since May.

Speaking about the expected volume of export, Prysiazhniuk assumed that it may equal the level of previous season.

At the same time, the minister reminded about substantial reserves of grain in Ukraine, Russia and other states, and assumed that no cataclysms are expected in the Ukrainian market.

The Verkhovna Rada ratified the Grain Trade Convention, reported the Ukrainian News. The grain harvest made up 46 million tonnes in 2009.
