Ukraine's pig, poultry, sheep numbers up, cattle down Jul 1
 

 

The number of pigs in Ukraine on Jul 1 was 8.44 million, 9.2 percent more that the year-earlier date, the state statistics committee reported Thursday (Jul 12).

 

Domestic poultry on Jul 1 numbered 199.1 million, an increase of 0.3 percent on- year.

 

Cattle numbers in the country on Jul 1 totalled 6.76 million, a fall of 7.4 percent compared with Jul 1, 2006.

 

The number of sheep and goats increased by 1.7 percent on-year to 2.05 million.

 

In the last few years, several serious investors entered Ukraine's pork and poultry markets, and considerable financial resources have been invested in upgrading existing facilities and creating new ones.
