Suguna expands into processed poultry, mutton and fish

India's largest poultry enterprise will tackle the fish and mutton markets, as well as launch a range of ready-to-cook and ready-to-eat chicken products, following the success of their chicken retail outlets.

Suguna Group's chain of chicken retail outlets is well-received in India with their hygienic and affordable chilled chicken and other frozen products.

At the end of the month, ready-to-cook and ready-to-eat products will be added to the outlets' range of chicken products, said Mr B. Soundararajan, managing director of Suguna Group.

About a dozen new products will be available for sale initially. To produce the new chicken lines, a processing plant in Bangalore underwent a US$1.4 million revamp.

In line with the slew of new products, the company plans to open a further 200 franchises in Chennai and Tamil Nadu, said Mr. Soundararajan.

Last year, the Coimbatore-based company forayed into the egg market with their 'designer' eggs. The eggs are fortified with vitamin E and Omega-3 fatty acids that help prevent heart problems.

Suguna sets aside US$9.3 million for expansion every year.
