Russia, China making progress in wheat export negotiations

The negotiations between Russian and Chinese officials on the export by Russia of wheat to China are continuing and progress has been reached, the Russian food market quality watchdog Rosselkhoznadzor said Friday (Jul 7).

At a recent meeting in the Chita region, Russia offered to China a number of regions which can export wheat and invited Chinese officials to examine phytosanitary conditions in these regions in the Far East of Russia.

The aim of the proposal is to remove the current temporary limitations imposed by the Chinese government on the import of Russian wheat.

A Russian delegation visited China in mid-December 2005 and the two countries' veterinary and food quality services signed a cooperation memorandum, and made plans and agreements for China to export meat to Russia and for Russia to export grain to China.
