Petaluma Poultry introduces tray-less packaging
California-based Petaluma Poultry has launched its tray-less packaging, which eliminates a Styrofoam tray in favour of a freezer-safe and leak-resistant plastic for its all-natural Rocky The Range Chicken and Rosie Organic Chicken.
Petaluma said the new packaging reduces its overall packaging volume by 73 percent and allows 25-percent more items to fit into a shipping box, decreasing the amount of cardboard and fuel required for transport.
The company will first use the new packaging on boneless skinless chicken breasts, and will also use it on Coleman Organic brand products.
John Bogert, chief marketing officer of Coleman Natural Foods, said the company looks forward to phasing in more environmentally conscious packaging across their Petaluma Poultry and Coleman Natural brands over the months ahead.
