Russian firm to build pig farms worth US$19 million

Rusagro, based in Belgorod region, western Russia, has announced RUB$600 million (US$19 million) plans to build several pig-breeding farms in Tambov region.

The project is reportedly to be 80 percent financed with bank loans. The company is currently negotiating eight-year loans with Sberbank, Rosselkhozbank and Gazprombank.

Under the project, the farms, located in the region's Tokaryovka, Znamenka, Sampur and Zherdevka districts, are to have overall capacity of one million pigs and to annually produce 100,000 tonnes of pork.

Construction is scheduled to begin in the nearest months, with farms to start operating at full capacity in 2013.
