Serbia's Bankom completes largest soybean processing expansion in company history

A new textured soy protein plant due to begin commercial output in September will add 20,000 tonnes of annual capacity alongside an upgraded 400-tonne-per-day extraction facility.
Bankom has completed a major expansion of its soybean processing operations in Serbia, commissioning a hexane extraction facility with a daily capacity of 400 metric tonnes - equivalent to approximately 140,000 metric tonnes per year - in what the company describes as the most substantial production upgrade in its history.
The expanded processing unit delivers higher extraction rates and more consistent product quality across food and animal feed applications. An adjacent textured soy protein (TSP) plant, set to begin commercial production in September, will contribute up to 20,000 metric tonnes of additional annual capacity, broadening Bankom's range of functional soy proteins for applications including meat substitutes, protein-fortified products and ready-to-eat meals.
Mladen Pesut, Deputy General Manager at Bankom, said the new platform was designed to meet customer demands for quality, traceability and supply reliability. "These investments greatly bolster the company's capacity to serve clients with high-performing soy ingredients while offering adaptability, expandability and operational dependability," he said.
Pesut added that the expansion is a foundation for further growth rather than an endpoint, with additional strategic investments already in the pipeline to broaden production capacity and diversify the product range.
The company said the expansion positions it to serve as a dependable regional supplier of non-GMO soy ingredients at a time when manufacturers are seeking shorter supply chains and clearer sourcing practices. Bankom currently exports to more than 40 countries across five continents, supplying food producers, ingredient companies, distributors and feed manufacturers with a range including soy flour, soy flakes, soybean meal, fermented soy concentrate and full-fat soy products.
