Indonesia's Maluku ships inaugural frozen tuna loin consignment to Thailand

The 11-tonne shipment marks the first direct seafood export from the province to Thailand, backed by mandatory quality certification under Codex Alimentarius standards.
Indonesia has shipped its first frozen tuna loin export from Maluku to Thailand, with an inaugural consignment of 11 metric tonnes valued at more than Rp1 billion (approximately US$61,000) departing from Yos Sudarso Port in Ambon on 3 July 2026.
The shipment received the Fishery Product Quality and Safety Certificate (SMKHP) from the Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries prior to departure. Acting Head of the Fishery Product Quality Control and Supervision Agency, Ishartini, said the certification is recognised under the Codex Alimentarius international food quality and safety framework, ensuring compliance with Thailand's import requirements.
"The quality and safety of fishery products are among the key factors determining their acceptance in export markets," Ishartini said, adding that strengthening the national quality assurance system is central to the government's strategy for improving the competitiveness of Indonesian seafood and expanding access to overseas markets.
Ishartini described the shipment as a concrete outcome of cooperation between the central and regional governments to broaden export destinations and support economic growth in Maluku.
