Brazilian beef and pork exports rebound, surpassing pre-pandemic levels
Brazil's beef and pork exports has seen a resurgence, surpassing volumes seen before the pandemic, MercoPress reported.
A Canal Rural report showed that in June alone, foreign sales of fresh, frozen, or refrigerated beef generated a substantial revenue of US$785.557 million, with a daily average of US$49.097 million. The country exported a total of 154,625 tonnes of beef, averaging 9,664 tonnes per day, at an average price of US$5,080.40 per tonne.
Comparing the figures to June 2022, there was a marginal 0.9% decrease in the average daily value of beef exports from Brazil. There was a notable 33.1% increase in the average daily quantity exported, although the average price experienced a 25.6% decline. These statistics were released by Brazil's Foreign Trade Secretariat.
A key contributing factor to this resurgence has been China's announcement to lift the ban on all Brazilian beef produced until February 22, following Brazil's suspension of production and export due to the detection of an atypical case of mad cow disease in a nine-year-old animal in Para.
Roberto Perosa, the Secretary of Commerce and International Relations at Brazil's Ministry of Agriculture, said that approximately 40,000 tons of beef, worth around US$1 billion, are now eligible for export.
Similarly, in June, Brazil's "in natura" pork exports amounted to US$202.632 million, with a daily average of US$12.664 million. The total quantity of pork exported during the period reached 79,144 thousand tonnes, averaging 4,946 thousand tonnes per day, at an average price of US$2,560.30.
Compared to June 2022, pork exports experienced significant growth across various aspects. The average daily value surged by 31.2%, the average daily quantity increased by 24.6%, and the average price rose by 5.3%. These statistics were also released by the Foreign Trade Secretariat, reflecting the positive performance of Brazil's pork industry.
