State Customs Committee reports Ukraine's rising corn exports

For October-September marketing year, Ukraine's corn exports are on the rise as reported by the State Customs Committee, US Grains Council said.

Showing sales for the first six months of the current marketing year (2011-12), Ukraine's exports of corn have increased significantly, especially to the North Africa markets, keeping US exporters from entering these markets consistently.

While Ukraine's corn exports were fairly stable from 2008-09 to 2010-11, exports in the current year show a dramatic increase. Current USDA projections for 2011-12 is 14 million tonnes (551 million bushels) compared with nine million tonnes (354 million bushels) already reported by Ukraine in just the first six months of the marketing year.

Ukraine has increased exports in North Africa, the Middle East and Europe, while also gaining first-time significant sales to Asia. Ukraine's corn exports to Former Soviet Union (FSU) countries have disappeared.
