Kemira invests into feed and food additive production in China
Press release
Kemira has increased its production capacity of calcium propionate used for the feed and food industries by establishing a production site in China.
With an expected annual production capacity of 15,000 tonnes, the facility is scheduled for completion by end-2008 in Yixing, Jiangsu province.
The investment also includes production capacity for feed additive mixtures.
Kemira currently produces calcium propionate in Tiel, the Netherlands. Calcium propionate is a salt used as a preservative in the food and feed industries. Its global consumption is increasing steadily amid rising standards of living and growing populations, especially in Asia. Calcium propionate is increasingly used for industrial feed preservation.
The Yixing facility supports Kemira's goal to become a leading solutions provider for the feed and food industry, and enables better service for the company's global customers, said Petri Helsky, Business Unit Manager of ChemSolutions.
Business unit ChemSolutions has been part of Kemira's Pulp&Paper business since Jul 1, 2007, specialising in organic acids and acid derivatives for demanding customer applications. ChemSolutions generated revenues of EUR170 million (about US$231.409 million) in 2006.
