Philippines lifts Belgian poultry import ban

The Philippines' Department of Agriculture has lifted a ban on Belgian poultry imports after Belgium announced it was free from avian influenza, GMA News reported.

William Dar, the Philippines' Agriculture Secretary, lifted the temporary ban on imports of wild and domestic birds and their products from Belgium following a report submitted to the World Organization for Animal Health (WOAH) by Belgian veterinary authorities declaring Belgium free from highly pathogenic avian influenza.

He said that all import transactions of the above bird species shall be in accordance with existing rules and regulations of the Philippines' Department of Agriculture.

In December 2021, the Philippines' Department of Agriculture banned imports of Belgian poultry products after Belgium announced a bird flu outbreak.
