Scottish Sea Farms appoints new regional manager

Following the purchase of Grieg Seafood Shetland in December of last year, Scottish Sea Farms has finished restructuring its Northern Isles operations by appointing a new Regional Manager for Orkney, Fish Information & Services reported.

Duane Coetzer succeeds Richard Darbyshire, who will now solely concentrate on the company's expanded estate in the Shetland Islands. Richard Darbyshire was formerly the long-serving Orkney Regional Manager and, beginning in 2020, the Northern Isles Regional Manager with responsibility for both Shetland and Orkney.

Orkney and Shetland are part of the pair of archipelagos known as the Northern Isles, which are located off the north coast of mainland Scotland. They are part of Scotland.

Coetzer has 18 years of experience in the finfish farming industry. He has held senior positions with several producers in Scotland, including Site Manager and Seawater Area Manager, and most recently in Australia as General Manager of Marine Operations at Petuna Aquaculture in Tasmania.

Jim Gallagher, managing director of Scottish Sea Farms, said Coetzer is familiar with the difficulties they face as farmers and the many facets of managing a prosperous farm and region, including site preparation, feed optimization, fish health, record keeping, budgeting, production forecasts, and managing and developing various teams.
